KUANTAN (Aug 26): Two Pahang assemblymen from Bersatu have declared their support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail from Barisan Nasional (BN).
Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said in a statement on Wednesday that the two were Kuala Sentul assemblyman Datuk Jasri Jamaluddin and Lepar assemblyman Mohd Yazid Mohd Yunus.
“The move was formalised through an agreement signed by the Pahang menteri besar and the two assemblymen. Both had informed the party leadership of their intention and left it to the party to decide,” he said.
Ahmad Faizal said Bersatu’s political bureau, chaired by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, had discussed the matter and endorsed the move.
“The decision was made to ensure political stability in Pahang and to ensure the welfare of the people in both constituencies receives due attention from the state government,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pahang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said he had received the application from the two assemblymen for their seats in the state assembly to be changed to the government bloc.
He said there was no reason not to allow the change as Pahang had no enactment regarding party switching.
“If they only support the government and do not leave their party, then I think there is no problem for us to rearrange their seats,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
The Pahang State Legislative Assembly currently comprises 17 BN assemblymen, 17 from Perikatan Nasional and eight from Pakatan Harapan as well as five appointed assemblymen.
