KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21): Pesona Metro Holdings Bhd (KL:PESONA) recorded a 46.7% year-on-year increase in second quarter net profit to RM13.67 million from RM9.32 million a year earlier. Revenue similarly rose 46.2% to RM255.56 million from RM174.78 million.

The stronger performance for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2QFY2026) was largely driven by the group’s property development subsidiary, Gaya Kuasa Sdn Bhd, which benefited from faster project completion and stronger sales during the quarter, the group said in a bourse filing on Friday. Margins on ongoing construction jobs also improved, while the concessionaire and maintenance segment continued to provide steady earnings.

Earnings per share increased to 1.97 sen from 1.34 sen. No dividend was declared for the quarter, though the group had guided in June for a dividend of about two sen per share for FY2026, up from the 1.4 sen interim paid for FY2025.

The property business has become a much larger contributor to Pesona's revenue. For the first half of FY2026, the segment generated RM186.41 million in external revenue, more than triple the RM51.27 million recorded a year earlier. The segment's profit before tax rose more than 400% to RM42.97 million from RM8.38 million.

The group's first half revenue rose 39.2% year-on-year to RM447.9 million, while net profit increased 56.7% to RM26.36 million.

Pesona expects Gaya Kuasa to continue contributing positively to the group’s performance in FY2026.

The group added that its outstanding construction order book stood at RM2 billion as at June 30, spanning seven ongoing projects, and has since risen to RM2.2 billion following a private hospital project secured in July.

Pesona said in June that it expects another record year in FY2026, supported by stronger property development and construction activities. At that time, chairman Wie Hock Kiong said the group had RM600 million in unbilled property sales to be recognised through end-2027 and was targeting RM500 million in new construction jobs for the year.

Pesona Metro shares were unchanged as of Friday’s close at 49 sen, valuing the construction group at RM334.5 million.
