KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Two investigation papers opened in 2021 involving former water, land and natural resources minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar were completed and classified as no further action (NFA) in 2024.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that the deputy public prosecutor reached the decision after a thorough review and comprehensive investigation into the facts, documents and related evidence, which found insufficient proof to charge the former minister.
"The MACC wishes to clarify that two investigation papers were opened in 2021 under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009," the statement read.
It said the duration of any investigation depends on the complexity of the case and the need to obtain, examine and verify relevant information and evidence.
"The MACC stresses that every investigation is conducted professionally, transparently, and based on facts and evidence, without influence from any party," the statement added.
As such, the commission urged all parties not to speculate or make assumptions on the matter, as the investigation has been concluded.
The MACC had investigated Xavier when he was the water, land and natural resources minister following the arrest of his close associate, MA Thinagaran, who was suspected of receiving bribes from several companies for projects awarded by the ministry in 2019.
