KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 13): Gamuda Bhd’s (KL:GAMUDA) Australian subsidiary, DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd, has secured two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the Ganymirra and Majors Creek solar and battery hybrid projects in Australia from Edify Energy.
The combined contract value is A$569 million (about RM1.64 billion), with each project worth A$284.5 million (about RM822.3 million). Gamuda received the notice to proceed on Aug 12, allowing work on both projects to begin.
Early engineering and pre-construction activities are underway, with major construction expected to commence in the third quarter of 2026.
Gamuda expects construction to be completed by January 2029, with the projects contributing positively to revenue and earnings from the financial year ending July 31, 2027 (FY2027) until completion, according to a filing with the bourse.
Upon completion, DT Infrastructure will also handle operations and maintenance to ensure long-term performance and reliability of both assets, Gamuda noted.
Gamuda said the projects in aggregate comprise 360 MWp of solar generation, a 300 MW/1,200 MWh integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a new substation and associated transmission connection infrastructure. Together, the assets will provide reliable renewable energy and grid support to Queensland's energy needs.
"Projects like Ganymirra and Majors Creek are another demonstration of how renewable generation and large-scale battery storage are working together to deliver a more resilient and reliable electricity network,” chief executive officer of DT Infrastructure John Anderson said in a separate statement.
This award marks DT Infrastructure's seventh renewable energy project. Other renewable energy projects under the company includes Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap Solar Power Station, Jinbi Solar Farm, Marinus Link Stage 1, Carmody's Hill Wind Farm, Boulder Creek Wind Farm and Goulburn River Solar Farm.
Gamuda secured the Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap projects, touted as the largest solar and battery hybrid developments currently under construction in the country, worth over RM3 billion in May this year.
“We have been thoroughly impressed with DTI’s early execution on the Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap projects and their partnership approach to delivery. We are looking forward to continuing the partnership with DTI on these projects and to their safe and successful delivery,” CEO of Edify Energy Ben Warne said.
Warne said the latest project is expected to deliver 360 MWp of solar generation and a 300 MW/1,200 MWh BESS, together with a new substation and transmission connection, upon completion of construction.
The project is also expected to support about 400 jobs and create opportunities for local businesses and suppliers across the Townsville region.
