Long after the applause faded and the ballroom cleared on the night of the gala dinner for The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards 2026, an analogy shared by our guest of honour — Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan — stayed with me.

He had likened Corporate Malaysia to a living forest, where large companies provide height and anchoring strength, while small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seed new growth, and the middle, growing canopy — the one that has taken root and proven its resilience — is ever ready to reach higher. This layer, he said, matters greatly as investors look to it in search of tomorrow’s leaders and the potential for meaningful growth in value.

This is the layer where the Centurion Club companies belong, the ones with market capitalisations of between RM100 million and RM1 billion that are often overshadowed by mega-cap giants, yet have to work at least twice as hard just to maintain their footing, especially when buffeted by headwinds fierce enough to shake the tallest and thickest trees in the forest. What more if they wish to reach new heights.

Such are the winners of the Centurion Club awards, a platform we originally set up to spotlight the top performers from this canopy of companies, with the hope of putting them on the radar of investors and partners who can help them scale even further.

Into its sixth year now, the platform has evolved into a showcase of sustained excellence. Half of the 28 winning companies this year are repeat winners, proving that success is a matter of tenacity and mastery, not random luck. We explore this and other trends seen over the years in “The Centurion Club’s unfolding story” on pg 14.

The latest batch of Centurion Club winners was drawn from a total of 501 qualifying companies. Together, they held a market cap of RM170.4 billion as at the end-March cut-off date this year, up from the 423 we started with in 2019 but down from the record high of 519 achieved last year, as new entrants qualify while those who push through the RM1 billion ceiling exit.

A major highlight this year is the introduction of our inaugural Sustainability Award, which recognises the Centurion company that has demonstrated the most profound, measurable commitment to sustainable business practices based on the highest FTSE Russell ESG Rating as of December 2025 under the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia framework.

As The Edge Media Group publisher and CEO Datuk Ho Kay Tat aptly put it, this marks an important milestone for the Centurion Club, highlighting that sustainability is no longer an optional afterthought but a fundamental pillar of future competitiveness.

To all the winners, our heartiest congratulations once again. As is our tradition each year, this special pullout features write-ups about the journeys each of you has taken to reach this milestone.

We look forward to witnessing your continued pursuit of growth and following your future achievements. May your journey ahead be ever fruitful, and your next milestones be even more rewarding.
