PUTRAJAYA (Aug 11): The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (ROS) is reviewing a complaint by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) concerning its membership status in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
ROS said it received the official complaint from Bersatu on Tuesday, which also raised an issue over the party’s exclusion from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, 2026.
The department said it is assessing the complaint under the Societies Act 1966, Societies Regulations 1984, PN’s approved constitution and its official records.
ROS said it would review all relevant documents, information and explanations submitted by the parties involved as part of the process. It stressed that all registered organisations must comply with the Societies Act, relevant regulations and their respective constitutions.
The review will be conducted professionally and impartially, ROS said, adding that it has no interest in any organisation or political party.
Bersatu’s membership in PN has come under scrutiny after PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said earlier this month that the party was no longer part of the coalition. However, days later, PN chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri
Mokhtar contradicted Hadi, confirming that Bersatu remained a component party of the coalition.
PAS had announced the end of its political ties with Bersatu on June 8, ahead of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state polls. In the elections, BN won Johor with 48 seats, with informal support from PAS. In Negeri Sembilan, BN and PN, comprising seats won by PAS and Wawasan, secured a combined 25 seats.
Bersatu, which contested all 24 seats in Negeri Sembilan under its own logo, lost every seat and retained its deposit in only one constituency, Jeram Padang.
