KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's PKR has lost its third parliamentary seat in less than four months after Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen said he had formally resigned and vacated the P.104 Subang seat.

Wong, a three-term lawmaker, said in a letter addressed to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul that he was voluntarily resigning as an MP, with the notice dated Aug 5. The resignation comes after Johari confirmed last week that Wong had met him and expressed his intention to step down as the Subang MP.

"This notice is submitted to Tan Sri in accordance with the Federal Constitution and is dated Aug 5, 2026, to give the parliamentary administration three working days to complete all processes and documentation related to the vacancy," Wong said in the letter, which he shared on social media on Monday.

He added that references to the honorific "Yang Berhormat" would be removed from his billboards, signages and official correspondence by next month. His departure comes at a time a dispute intensifies involving constituency allocations for several PKR government backbenchers. 

Wong disclosed in May that his parliamentary office had lost access to MyKhas, the government portal used to manage constituency allocations and Projek Mesra Rakyat applications. Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung subsequently reported a similar restriction, while Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail said last week that her office had also been denied access.

Five PKR MPs — Wong, Lee, Rodziah, Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan and Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan — issued a joint statement criticising the restrictions and calling for an explanation from the government.

Wong and Lee had previously attended the May 17 political event that marked the emergence of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) under former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli and former vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. 

Both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi vacated the Pandan and Setiawangsa seats respectively before leading Bersama in May, which they subsequently took over as their new political platform. Both had earlier resigned from Anwar's Cabinet in 2025 following their defeats in PKR's internal elections.
