(Aug 7): JBS NV said the Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara agreed to invest US$2.5 billion (RM10.2 billion) to form a joint-venture that will focus on the protein market in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Danantara will have a stake of 25% in the new joint-venture company, JBS said in a Friday filing. The business will have full equity ownership of JBS’s current Australia and New Zealand operations.

The move shows JBS’s continued appetite to expand into new geographies. The company currently does not operate any meatpacking facilities in Southeast Asia.

The investment from Danantara will occur in two phases. Initially, the fund will commit US$800 million for an 9.6% share. The remainder will occur within three years, JBS said.
