KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 7): Former second chief justice Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin has passed away.
He is said to be 90 years old.
A posting by Eusoff's daughter Zuliana informed he passed away at 1am early Friday morning.
His remains have been brought back to his house and would be brought to Masjid Al-Hidayah, Kelana Jaya, on Friday morning.
Funeral prayers have been held after Friday prayers, and his remains are to be buried at the Section 9 Islamic cemetery at Kota Damansara, Selangor.
Eusoff was second CJ from September 1994 to December 2000.
Former CJ Tun Zaki Azmi, when contacted by The Edge, said that he had appeared before Eusoff many times as a lawyer, and found him to be a very patient judge.
The current CJ, Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, also extended his condolences to Eusoff’s family.
“On behalf of the Malaysian judiciary, the legal fraternity, and all officers and staff of the Malaysian courts, I extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Eusoff.
“Tun Eusoff served the nation with great dedication across a distinguished judicial career, serving as CJ from 1994 to 2000. His contributions to the development of Malaysian jurisprudence, the administration of justice, and judicial institutions remain a significant part of our legal heritage.
“We join his family in mourning this profound loss and pray that his soul finds eternal peace,” Wan Ahmad Farid said.
After retiring, Eusoff featured prominently in the 2008 Royal Commission of Inquiry allegedly over judicial fixing and also for his holiday trip to New Zealand with prominent lawyer Datuk VK Lingam.
The RCI had recommended for action to be taken against six people, including Eusoff and Lingam. However, to date, no charges have ever been preferred against any of them.
