KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 6): Hextar Global Bhd (KL:HEXTAR) has redesignated independent non-executive director Datuk Ong Chong Yi as its independent non-executive chairman, effective Aug 6.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Thursday, the agrochemical group said Ong, 47, was previously an independent non-executive director.

Ong chairs the group’s nomination and remuneration committee and also sits on its audit and risk management committees.

Hextar Global is a crop management solutions provider with more than 30% market share in Malaysia’s pesticide market. It operates across three core segments such as agriculture, specialty chemicals and fruits and has a distribution network spanning more than 30 countries.

The group is also expanding into the fertiliser business through the proposed RM54.5 million acquisition of PK Fert Sdn Bhd and Hextar Fert Sdn Bhd from its 52.4%-owned associate Hextar Industries Bhd.

The revised related-party deal was scaled down from an initial RM120 million proposal involving three companies and is targeted for completion in the second half of 2026.

Hextar Global shares were up one sen or 1.3% to 77.5 sen at Thursday’s close, valuing the group at RM3.05 billion.
