KUALA LUMPUR (July 31): Unisem (M) Bhd (KL:UNISEM) posted a higher net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2QFY2026), as stronger revenue helped lift earnings.
The semiconductor packaging and test services provider’s net profit rose 8.5% to RM9.91 million from RM9.13 million a year earlier, according to its Bursa Malaysia filing on Friday.
Revenue increased 20% to RM570.12 million from RM475.15 million in the corresponding quarter last year.
The higher revenue was driven by increased sales volume across the group’s key operating units, although the rise in quarterly earnings was moderated by higher operating expenses.
For the first half of FY2026, however, Unisem slipped into a net loss of RM3.45 million from a net profit of RM15.14 million a year earlier, despite stronger revenue.
The group attributed the reversal mainly to foreign exchange movements and higher operating expenses.
Looking ahead, Unisem said it remains optimistic despite cost inflation and currency volatility arising from a softer US dollar.
It expects demand to continue improving, supported by ongoing new product qualifications, production ramp-up activities and healthy order momentum, while ongoing efficiency enhancements and cost mitigation measures are expected to underpin its performance.
The board did not recommend a dividend for the quarter.
As at 2.15pm on Friday, Unisem shares were up 19 sen or 4.1% at RM4.81, with a market capitalisation of RM8.25 billion.
