KUALA LUMPUR (July 30): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it has set up a special task force to review and analyse the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Tabung Haji.
Report on the RCI, which investigated the fund's management and operations in 2014-2020, was officially released to the public on the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) portal on July 29.
The report, completed and presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in August 2022, underlined a total of six reports to the MACC over alleged wrongdoing under the pilgrim fund, including at subsidiaries TH Plantations Bhd and TH Properties Bhd.
The anti-corruption commission was still conducting investigations at the time of the RCI completion in 2022, according to the released report.
In a statement on Thursday, the MACC said the special task force — formed following the public release of the RCI report — will be led by MACC Senior Director of the Investigation Division Datuk Hafaz Nazar.
It will examine potential legal offences involving elements of corruption, criminal breach of trust, document forgery, abuse of power, and money laundering under the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694) and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA/Act 613), the statement read.
"MACC is committed to ensuring that every issue highlighted in the report is duly examined. Should any breach of the law be identified, firm action will be taken regardless of the position or background of the individuals involved," said the commission in a statement on Thursday.
MACC added that it will uphold the principles of the rule of law, accountability, and integrity without interference from any party, while requesting the public to refrain from speculating on the issue until the investigation is fully completed.
The public has also been requested to refrain from making speculations until the conclusion of the investigation.
