PUCHONG (July 30): IOI Properties Group Bhd (KL:IOIPG) has partnered with Marriott International to open the 324-key Westin Puchong within its 100-acre IOI Rio City masterplan in Bandar Puteri Puchong, Selangor.

Slated to open by end-June 2030, the hotel will occupy the upper portion of one of the two office towers in the IOI Mall Rio development.

"The Westin Puchong will mark the arrival of the first internationally branded five-star hotel in Puchong," said IOI Properties Group Bhd chief operating officer of property investment Chris Chong at the signing ceremony.

"The hotel will complement IOI Mall Rio, a lifestyle anchor development within the final phase of the 100-acre IOI Rio City masterplan," he added.

"As we see this whole area [of Puchong] developing, we are really confident of putting in our first five star brand here. We have been present in Malaysia for just about 30 years...and we will continue to drive more businesses into Puchong," said Marriott International vice-president of hotel development (Asia-Pacific) Andree Susilo. Located three kilometres from IOI Rio City is Marriott International's The Four Points by Sheraton, Puchong.

Positioned to capture MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions) and business travel, Westin Puchong will feature a 1,500 sq metre grand ballroom, six meeting rooms spanning 2,030 sq ft, and four food and beverage (F&B) outlets.

Upon Westin Puchong's completion, IOI Properties Group’s overall hotel portfolio will expand to 3,982 rooms across Malaysia, Singapore, and China. The group’s hospitality and leisure segment currently contributes 20.4% of total group revenue.

The project marks IOI Properties Group’s tenth hospitality development under the Marriott International umbrella across its footprint in Malaysia, Singapore, and China.

Meanwhile, the broader 100-acre IOI Rio City masterplan is scheduled for development over a 12-year period. Previously launched components in the masterplan include 2Rio Residence, Alyvia Residence, and The Cube Plus.

To enhance urban flow, underground vehicle and pedestrian connectivity will be integrated into the IOI Rio City masterplan, an effort to free the masterplan’s ground floors.

"We want to learn from Orchard Road [in Singapore] and other major cities like Seoul, where the ground level is kept clear of parking complexes…we are building all parking underground, which requires us to construct underground road connectivity," said IOI Properties Group chief operating officer of property development Teh Chin Guan.
