KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): The welfare and safety of 113 refugees, including 110 Rohingyas, currently temporarily housed at Dataran Wira, Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters (IPK) continue to be given attention through the provision of five meals a day and continuous health monitoring.
A Bernama survey at the temporary placement location found that the group of refugees, consisting of adult women and men, as well as children, were placed in controlled conditions while awaiting further action from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
While they were under the temporary care of the Kuala Lumpur IPK, humanitarian aspects were given priority with the presence of a team of paramedics from non-governmental organisations who are ready to provide treatment to sick refugees.
The Kuala Lumpur IPK acted as a facilitator in managing the welfare and security of the group while waiting for the UNHCR to provide more suitable placement.
Apart from the 110 Rohingyas, three other individuals who have also been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur IPK since Monday are an Iraqi man, a Somali woman and an Indonesian woman who is the wife of a Rohingya refugee.
The results of the inspection and documentation process carried out by the police on Tuesday confirmed that all of them have valid UNHCR documents.
The media previously reported that the group of refugees arrived in the capital early Monday morning on three buses after being evicted by local residents from their settlement in Penang.
