KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): Yinson GreenTech plans to expand its chargEV network by more than 30% to 850 charging points by the end of 2026, focusing on highways and underserved areas across Peninsular Malaysia, as rising electric vehicle (EV) adoption drives demand for public charging infrastructure.
Yinson GreenTech is the green technology business of offshore support services group for the oil and gas sector, Yinson Holdings Bhd (KL:YINSON).
The expansion comes as the company launched its revamped chargEV 2.0 mobile app on Monday, after surpassing one million charging sessions since acquiring the EV charging business in 2022.
Yinson GreenTech managing director of EV charging and leasing Kelvin Soon said the company currently operates 645 charging points across 13 states and aims to add more than 200 charging points this year, extending its presence to a 14th state and increasing roaming partners to eight from six.
"We are looking beyond shopping malls into underserved areas, office buildings and, more importantly, along the North-South Expressway," Soon told reporters after the launch.
"This year alone, we are looking at another two to four locations along the highway," he said, adding that the company is also exploring opportunities to expand into East Malaysia.
The company recently deployed chargers in locations including Teluk Intan, Gemas, Raub and Kuala Kangsar, while continuing to strengthen its presence at high-traffic sites such as AEON malls and Merdeka 118.
Soon said highway charging remains a key priority to address drivers’ range anxiety. Through Terra chargEV, its joint venture with PLUS Malaysia Bhd, chargEV plans to open an EV charging hub at the Seremban southbound rest and recreation area by the second quarter of 2027, while working with other highway concessionaires to improve charging coverage along major routes.
The company expects charging demand to continue growing alongside Malaysia's EV market. Having reached its first one million charging sessions over four years, Soon said chargEV aims to reach the next million within two years.
"I hope we can achieve the next million within the next two years. EV adoption has been very encouraging, and we are seeing more people travelling across highways, which gives us confidence," he said.
Separately, Yinson GreenTech unveiled the chargEV 2.0 app, which introduces features such as one-click charging, AutoCharge, enhanced maps, live charging updates and improved trip planning. The app was developed using insights from more than one million charging sessions to simplify the charging experience.
The updated app will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play from July 28.
