(July 23): Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global Inc is looking to expand its headcount in Singapore to 200 by the end of the year, up from 150, the Business Times (BT) reported Wednesday.
The functions expected to grow the most include engineering, customer service, relationship management and institutional sales, the newspaper reported, citing country director Hassan Ahmed.
The move comes as the Nasdaq-listed crypto exchange cuts its workforce elsewhere as the company seeks to manage costs in volatile markets and technological advances in artificial intelligence.
The hiring push in Singapore comes as Coinbase sees potential for the adoption of crypto and stablecoins in the country and the broader Asian region, Ahmed told BT.
The city-state also has a business-friendly operating environment, advantageous tax rules and strong capital flows, he said. Coinbase opened a new office in Singapore this week.
