KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) will hold an inquest into the police shooting which led to the deaths of three individuals in Durian Tunggal, Melaka late last year.
In a statement on Monday, the AGC said the decision was made after it received and thoroughly examined the investigation papers submitted by the Royal Malaysian Police.
Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, representing the families of the three people killed, reportedly said post-mortem reports showed that two victims were shot in the head, while another was shot in the chest from close range, disputing the police version of events.
Previously, Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the three men, aged 24 to 29, were shot after one of them allegedly attacked a police officer with a machete during an incident at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal.
The proceeding aims to determine the exact cause and reason for the fatalities, as well as scrutinise the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
The inquest will be conducted under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code [Act 593].
Additionally, it will identify whether any criminal elements were involved during the shooting incident on Nov 24, 2025.
"This Chambers remains committed to ensuring that every legal action and process is carried out fairly, professionally, and based on the principles of the rule of law," the AGC said.
The AGC emphasised that it takes every incident involving the loss of life seriously.
