KUALA LUMPUR (July 13): The total asset under management (AUM) of all private retirement schemes (PRS) has reached a record RM10.9 billion, the highest level recorded since PRS was introduced in 2012, according to Datuk Dr Tengku Aizan Tengku Abdul Hamid, chairman of the Private Pension Administrator (PPA) Malaysia.

The figure also represents a year-to-date increase of RM2.1 billion, including RM379 million in member contributions.

Membership has also continued to grow, with approximately 19,000 new members welcomed this year, bringing total PRS membership to over 690,000 Malaysians.

“Every PRS account represents far more than retirement savings. It represents years of hard work, discipline, aspirations and hope for a better future. Today, we celebrate the people behind those accounts,” said Tengku Aizan during her welcome address at the inaugural Hari PRS.

Hari PRS was successfully concluded on Sunday, July 12, at MyTOWN Shopping Centre here.

Tengku Aizan said that retirement readiness is about much more than financial preparedness. It is about preparing for longer lives, financially, physically, mentally and socially.

She added that while members aged between 30 and 40 continue to form the largest segment of PRS membership, participation among younger Malaysians remains comparatively low. She reminded visitors that retirement planning should begin early.

“Every contribution made today, no matter how modest, has the potential to provide greater financial resilience and confidence in later life,” she said.

Meanwhile, a highlight of the launch was the introduction of two digital enhancements that demonstrate PPA’s ongoing commitment to improving the member experience.

The first is the newly enhanced PRS Members Portal, redesigned to provide a more intuitive and seamless digital experience, enabling members to access their accounts more conveniently, monitor their retirement savings more easily and manage their retirement journey with greater confidence.

The second is the upgraded PRS Retirement Planning Calculator, which now integrates retirement savings accumulation, retirement income planning through decumulation and smart risk profiling into one comprehensive retirement planning tool.

“These enhancements represent more than digital innovation. They demonstrate our commitment to continuously improve the way we serve our members,” said Tengku Aizan.

She assured members that PPA will continue strengthening its governance, embracing innovation responsibly and enhancing its services, so that PPA remains a trusted administrator.
