KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): Hartanah Kenyalang Bhd (KL:HKB) has secured a RM283.9 million contract from the Public Works Department Sarawak (JKR Sarawak) to build the Wisma JKR Sarawak complex.

The Kuching-based construction firm said the contract was awarded to its wholly owned Hartanah Construction Sdn Bhd, and will run for 30 months commencing July 23.

The existing the JKR Sarawak Kuching divisional office at Jalan Batu Lintang, Kuching, which was built in 1955, has served as the department's operational hub for more than 70 years. This building will be demolished to make way for the new development, which will comprise a 21-storey main tower, a three-storey car park and ancillary facilities, according to the group in a statement.

The latest contract boosted the group's order book to RM800.5 million as at July 9, over five times higher than the RM142.5 million recorded as at March 31, 2025.

Hartanah Kenyalang's non-independent executive director and managing director Seah Boon Tiat said the award marks the largest contract secured by the company in its 12-year history in Sarawak's construction industry.

"We are honoured by the trust placed in us by JKR Sarawak to construct Wisma JKR Sarawak, its new landmark green office building in Kuching," he said.

"We will work closely with the department to realise its vision and aspirations. The new Wisma JKR Sarawak will feature modern facilities and infrastructure that will not only enhance the working environment and welfare of government officers, but also reinforce JKR Sarawak's image as a modern and progressive government agency," Seah added.

Hartanah Kenyalang shares closed unchanged at 67 sen on Thursday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM453.58 million. The stock has rallied more than four times since its ACE Market debut in June last year.
