KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): Malaysia has denied claims that Low Taek Jho, a fugitive better known as Jho Low, returned to the country in late 2025.
“I deny the allegation,” Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong told the Dewan Rakyat in a brief response on Thursday.
Liew was responding to Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who asked for the government's confirmation on the claim that Jho Low entered Malaysia with a Chinese delegation to negotiate matters related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
News reports of the allegations surfaced in May this year. The Immigration Department earlier stated that it had no information regarding his return while the police noted that it would investigate the matter.
Jho Low, a key figure in a scandal involving 1MDB that spans multiple jurisdictions, remains at large and wanted by authorities.
