KUALA LUMPUR (July 7): SkyeChip Bhd (KL:SKYECHIP) announced engineering engagement with US-based Cerebras Systems Inc for the development of custom chip design.
As part of the engagement, SkyeChip is supporting the development of high-speed interface intellectual property (IP) for Cerebras’ next-generation computing initiatives, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
“This engagement reflects SkyeChip’s continued growth in supporting advanced, performance-critical semiconductor programs through our interface IP and engineering capabilities,” said Datuk SK Fong, chief executive officer of SkyeChip.
The engagement involves milestone-based development, technical validation and collaboration across the semiconductor ecosystem, with the aim of developing production-ready IP for next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) computing.
SkyeChip’s technical depth and experience in designing complex IPs were key reasons for the collaboration, said Cerebras vice-president David Greenhill.
Interface IP refers to reusable chip design blocks that allow different parts of a chip, or different chips, to communicate with each other quickly and reliably. Such technology is important in AI and high-performance computing, where large amounts of data need to move at high speed.
Headquartered in Penang, SkyeChip designs silicon IPs and silicon products, including custom application-specific integrated circuits or Asics, which are chips designed for a specific use rather than general computing.
SkyeChip’s proprietary IP portfolio covers high-bandwidth memory, low-power double data rate memory, network-on-chip and die-to-die interface IPs. The company has more than 360 designers and has filed more than 110 patents across the US, China and Malaysia since inception.
