KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has arrived at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to testify as a key prosecution witness in the Jana Wibawa corruption trial on Monday.
Zafrul, who served as the finance minister during prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration, is expected to take the stand and testify on the implementation and approval process of the controversial Bumiputera contractor empowerment programme.
He arrived unaccompanied at 8.46am and did not address the media before heading to the courtroom.
Zafrul is testifying as the 11th prosecution witness and will face questioning and cross-examination from both the prosecution team led by deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Laden and the defence team led by Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad.
The case is being heard before High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin.
Muhyiddin, who is also the member of Parliament for Pagoh and president of Bersatu, is accused of four charges of abusing his official position to obtain RM225.3 million in bribes from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd, and Datuk Azman Yusoff.
He also faces three money laundering charges involving RM200 million in proceeds from unlawful activities from Bukhary Equity, which were allegedly deposited into Bersatu’s AmBank and CIMB accounts during his tenure as prime minister.
