KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has introduced several measures to ease the roll-out of the Budi Diesel subsidy programme ahead of its nationwide launch on July 1, when eligible Malaysians can buy subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre under a 200-litre monthly quota.
According to an MOF statement, an early access period for eligible private diesel vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia will begin on Saturday at RM2.15 per litre.
The measures include waiving up to RM100 in diesel vehicle ownership transfer fees from July 1, allowing subsidy eligibility to be transferred to immediate family members, and extending eligibility to company-owned private pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
“With this waiver [of diesel vehicle ownership transfer fees], owners as well as the actual users of diesel vehicles will have the opportunity to ensure that vehicle ownership information is properly updated and aligned with actual usage,” it said.
To facilitate ownership transfers, Road Transport Department (JPJ) service counters will operate on weekends from July 4 to 26.
Details on transferring subsidy eligibility to family members and applications for company-owned vehicles will be announced through the Budi Madani portal after the necessary system updates.
The ministry said the measures were introduced following feedback and appeals from stakeholders during engagement sessions.
Early access for the Budi Diesel scheme will begin on Saturday for eligible private diesel vehicle users in Peninsular Malaysia with subsidised diesel priced at RM2.15 per litre.
With the early access, eligible participants — including those who previously received cash assistance for diesel purchases — may now purchase subsidised diesel via MyKad verification at participating petrol stations.
“At the same time, more private diesel vehicle users in Peninsular Malaysia who previously did not receive the Budi Diesel individual cash assistance will gain access to subsidised diesel through Budi Diesel,” the ministry said.
The MOF said eligible owners of diesel pickup trucks and SUVs may also apply for an additional 100 litres per month through the same portal.
“The government will continue to monitor the implementation of the early access phase of Budi Diesel and review public feedback to ensure that the transition to the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism proceeds smoothly and that subsidy benefits reach eligible Malaysians,” it added.
