KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): Perikatan Nasional (PN) has removed Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin as the coalition’s election director and dismissed Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as its deputy secretary general.

Mohd Radzi will be replaced by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor, the coalition’s chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said in a statement. Meanwhile, Subramaniam Surunaryan will step into Muhammad Sanusi’s current role as treasurer.

The changes are effective immediately, Ahmad Samsuri said.

The move comes as PAS solidifies their takeover over the coalition’s leadership after ending their ties with Bersatu.

Ahmad Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, was appointed as the coalition’s chairman in February to replace former prime minister and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Bersatu and PAS, nevertheless, wanted to remain in PN.

Ahmad Samsuri said he is exercising his powers under PN’s constitution in the latest administration restructuring as the coalition heads into the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

An emergency meeting of the PN Supreme Council will be held in the near future to strengthen the organisation, he added.
