KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): Poh Kong Holdings Bhd (KL:POHKONG) on Monday delivered its strongest quarterly performance since its listing in 2004, with both revenue and profit hitting record highs, underpinned by elevated gold prices and resilient demand.
The jewellery retailer posted a 47.1% increase in net profit to RM70.02 million for the third quarter ended April 30, 2026 from RM47.6 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 9.7% to RM585.57 million from RM533.93 million, according to the group's Bursa Malaysia filing.
Poh Kong said the stronger performance was evident in its retail segment and largely due to higher gold prices during the quarter. It also noted that the rise in gold prices helped support margins, with overall profitability benefitting from the upward trend in bullion prices.
Gold prices hit a peak of US$5,322.12 per ounce in March soon after the start of the Iran war. On Monday, it was last seen trading at US$4,340.
No dividend was declared for the quarter under review.
For the cumulative nine-month period, Poh Kong's net profit increased 59.5% year-on-year to RM157.17 million, while revenue was 17.5% higher at RM1.55 billion.
The group said Malaysia’s jewellery industry showed resilience in 2025, supported by domestic and international demand. It expects the sector to remain underpinned by continued interest in gold investment and jewellery consumption.
“Despite factors such as inflation and currency fluctuations, we believe that strong central bank buying, consumer spending and safe haven inflows amid global geopolitical uncertainties will continue to fuel demand for both jewellery and gold investment products,” said Poh Kong in its filing.
The group remains confident that it has sufficient measures in place to navigate challenges for the current financial year ending July 31, 2026, while continuing to monitor external conditions affecting operations.
At market close on Monday, Poh Kong’ shares were up four sen or 3.8% at RM1.10, giving it a market capitalisation of RM451.4 million.
