KUALA LUMPUR (June 11): Shin Yang Group Bhd (KL:SYGROUP) said it has initiated legal action against a marine service provider to recover alleged unpaid charter fees.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Shin Yang said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shin Yang Shipping Sdn Bhd, filed the lawuit against Petroschiff Marine Logistics Sdn Bhd at the High Court on May 21.
The claims relate to outstanding charter hire payments, unpaid service tax and repair costs arising from charter arrangements covering six sets of tugboats and barges between the parties.
Shin Yang said its unit is seeking RM2.96 million in total, comprising outstanding charter charges for various vessels between May 2025 and March 2026, as well as repair expenses.
The group said the legal proceedings are not expected to have a material adverse effect on the group’s financial position or operations.
Shin Yang, formerly known as Shin Yang Shipping Corporation Bhd, is primarily involved in shipping loose bulk and container cargoes. It also has a shipyard that is involved in vessel construction, repairs and fabrications.
Shares of Shin Yang closed down by one sen or 1.3% to 74 sen on Thursday ahead of the announcement. At its closing price, the group is valued at RM888 million.
