KUALA LUMPUR (June 10): A former chief financial officer of Karex Bhd (KL:KAREX) has been charged for insider trading involving shares of the world’s largest condom manufacturer.
Goh Chok Siang, 55, is charged with obtaining 150,000 units of Karex’s shares on July 22, 2020, based on information that could not be obtained publicly over its venture into rubber glove manufacturing. He pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The charge is framed under Section 188 (2) (a) Capital Market and Services Act 2007.
If found guilty, Goh faces up to a maximum 10 years' jail and fine of not less than RM1 million.
Goh was appointed to his last role in April 2013 and retired in June 2025, according to exchange filings.
He is represented by counsel Wong Chiang Kiat while the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) was represented by deputy public prosecutors Ng Chian Huey and Mohd Izzat Fauzan and prosecuting officer Mark Rohan Mahadevan.
“The SC views insider trading as a serious offence and will continue to take firm enforcement action to safeguard market integrity and investor confidence,” the regulator said in a statement.
Sessions Court judge Izralizam Sanusi set bail at RM90,000 with two sureties and ordered Goh to surrender his passport.
The judge also fixed July 10 for mention.
