KUALA LUMPUR (May 25): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) has sufficient fuel supply for its nationwide retail network until the end of July, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said on Monday.
“The National Energy Council (MTEN) was informed that PETRONAS has assured that the country’s oil supply remains sufficient until July,” he said during a global supply crisis briefing broadcast live on the Economy Ministry’s social media platforms.
PETRONAS supplies about 50% of Malaysia’s fuel needs through its listed subsidiary, PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (KL:PETDAG), with the remainder provided by other oil companies operating in the country.
The update from the minister comes as Brent crude prices remain elevated above the US$100 (RM396.54) per barrel level, pushing up transportation costs and prices of goods, and reflecting continued volatility in the global energy market amid geopolitical risks.
For the period of May 18 to 22, 2026, the average Brent crude price stood at US$111.67 per barrel, up 1.7% from US$109.85 in the preceding week.
Previously, the government had said fuel supply would be secured until end-May, before revising its projection to end-June.
Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said efforts are ongoing to ensure the country’s energy supply security can be sustained until December, as global supply disruptions continue to strain economic activity and drive up energy costs.
Malaysia, like many countries, is grappling with the impact of the Iran war, now in its third month. The conflict has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a key route for about one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supply amid attacks on energy infrastructure.
