KUALA LUMPUR (May 25): The Minister of Transport said on Monday that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will immediately reinstate its online vehicle ownership transfer services, a day after announcing their suspension.
In a Facebook post, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said JPJ had informed the Ministry of Transport (MOT) about misuse and fraudulent activities involving the ownership transfer system, which created liabilities that needed to be addressed. As a result, JPJ said immediate improvements to the online system were necessary.
The minister advised JPJ to ensure that any system upgrade works would not disrupt the daily affairs of users or cause significant congestion at JPJ offices.
JPJ agreed to restore the online services immediately. Any future suspension for system improvement works will only take place during the long weekend holiday period later this week.
JPJ director general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli in a statement on Sunday said it will suspend its online vehicle ownership transfer services from May 25 across all digital platforms, including the public portal, kiosks, MyEG, and eAuto Sdn Bhd.
He said the move followed complaints about vehicle ownership being transferred without the knowledge of registered owners. Under the suspension, all ownership transfers for individuals and private companies were required to be conducted at JPJ counters.
