KUALA LUMPUR (May 22): Berjaya Food Bhd (KL:BJFOOD) posted another loss in the recently-ended quarter as costs and expenses continued to outsize the marginal revenue growth.

Net loss at the franchisee of the Starbucks coffee chain was RM14.32 million for the three months ended March 31, 2026 (3QFY2026), marking its 10th consecutive quarter in the red. Still, the loss was smaller than RM37.19 million in 3QFY2025 thanks to cost control and store closures.

Revenue for the quarter rose 4.9% year-on-year to RM119.14 million, largely driven by its overseas operations, a bourse filing showed.

Berjaya Food, nevertheless, sounded upbeat on its prospects, noting that recent efforts have yielded results.

“The group expects its operational and financial performance to remain strong, supported by continuous marketing and promotional initiatives, ongoing store rationalisation efforts, as well as continued digitalisation to enhance both online and in-store customer experience,” Berjaya Food said.

Berjaya Food has been expanding abroad while pushing other brands in its portfolio that includes Paris Baguette and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to stanch its persistent losses. At home, the company has been closing non-performing Starbucks outlets and Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurants.

“These initiatives undertaken have already shown improvements in the group’s performance and are expected to continue delivering positive contributions in the coming quarter, supported by further enhancement of operational efficiency,” Berjaya Food added.

For the nine-month period in the current financial year, net loss shrank to RM41.1 million from RM106.2 million a year earlier. Cumulative revenue increased 3.55% year-on-year to RM373.68 million.

No dividends were declared for the quarter under review.

Berjaya Food shares closed up one sen or 5.26% at 20 sen, valuing the group at RM417 million ahead of the results announcement.
