KUALA LUMPUR (May 21): Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (Rehda) has expressed its support for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s (KPKT) allocation of 1.6 million metric tonnes of cement through Inisiatif Simen Rahmah to build approximately 500,000 units of affordable housing nationwide, according to a press statement issued on Thursday.
According to a statement by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, since its implementation in 2023, Skim Simen Rahmah has recorded the utilisation of 317,000 metric tonnes of cement to support the construction of 11,909 affordable homes.
The association views this initiative as a testament of an effective public-private collaboration in addressing housing affordability challenges and enhancing the well-being of the rakyat.
"We thank KPKT for their concern by proactively continuing the initiative amid rising construction material costs and ongoing global economic pressures affecting supply chains," said Rehda president Datuk Ho Hon Sang.
Rehda further urges its members to utilise Inisiatif Simen Rahmah responsibly and in strict adherence to the established guidelines, in line with its objective to support affordable housing developments for the benefit of both the homebuyers and the industry.
