KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Uzma Bhd (KL:UZMA) has teamed up with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to explore opportunities in renewable energy, aerospace and defence maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), marine engineering for the oil and gas sector, and strategic investments tied to energy transition and technology development.

The collaboration is formalised through a three-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Sunday (May 3), the petroleum engineering company, which specialises in enhancing oil recovery said in a statement on Monday. 

According to Uzma, the partnership also aims to strengthen talent pipelines through academic and executive programmes delivered via Institusi Pendidikan Mara (Ipma), covering areas such as leadership and artificial intelligence (AI), alongside structured industrial training and apprenticeship pathways.

In addition, Uzma said the initiative will create opportunities for Mara graduates — particularly from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions — to gain industry-relevant exposure, while supporting the development of Bumiputera vendors within the broader energy and technology value chain. 

Uzma group CEO Kamarul Redzuan Muhamed said the partnership with Mara — a government agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development — will help deepen industry capabilities by aligning training with real operational needs, while strengthening vendor development across key sectors, including oil and gas and renewable energy. 

“... What is needed now is stronger alignment between industry and institutions to ensure talent development remains relevant, practical, and future ready,” he said. 

Shares of Uzma closed half a sen lower at 44.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM269 million.
