KUALA LUMPUR (April 29): The federal and state governments are operating as usual despite the political turmoil in Negeri Sembilan, said government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
The Cabinet has been briefed that the coalition led by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) is unaffected, he said at a weekly news conference on Wednesday. It’s also business as usual even in Negeri Sembilan, where Pakatan Harapan is now leading a minority state government, he said.
The remarks come after all 14 BN state assemblymen withdrew their support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, citing a loss of confidence amid an ongoing issue involving the state’s royal institution.
BN later claimed it had sufficient numbers to form a new state government with the backing of five Perikatan Nasional assemblymen. The Negeri Sembilan ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, however, has decreed that Aminuddin should remain in office for now.
The two major political blocs continue to cooperate at the federal level and in several states, including Penang, Perak, Selangor, Pahang, Melaka and Sabah.
Fahmi said Deputy Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to meet the 14 BN assemblymen soon to discuss the situation in the state.
He reiterated that the federal government will not interfere in matters related to adat (customary practices) of Negeri Sembilan.
