PUTRAJAYA (April 27): Najib Razak’s lawyer said he is unable to comment on the former prime minister's decision to drop his bid for house arrest or the purported second pardon attempt.
Speaking to the press following proceedings at the Court of Appeal (COA) on Monday, senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said the following:
"There are things that are beyond me. I cannot comment. I do not know."
"The correct quotation is 'I cannot comment'," he said.
It was reported earlier on Monday that the ex-prime minister currently serving out his prison sentence meted out in the SRC International case has dropped his appeal to enforce an additional "addendum order" allowing him to serve the remainder of the updated sentence under house arrest.
There were also previous news reports — quoting sources — stating that the 72-year-old had also put in a fresh pardon bid. Shafee had immediately dismissed any such notion.
Alluding to his comments addressing the news reports last month, Shafee on Monday questioned the need for further clarification.
"You have quoted all that before. Why this one you need a special answer. You all want to make it more interesting. I cannot comment," he said.
