KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): Systech Bhd's (KL:SYSTECH) newly appointed executive chairman Datuk Ong Theng Soon has increased his stake in the e-business and cybersecurity company to 4.71%.

This follows his acquisition of 15.72 million shares or a 2.22% stake via a direct business transaction on April 7, according to a bourse filing on Friday. The shares were bought at 9.5 sen each for a total consideration of RM1.49 million.

Ong first acquired 17.2 million shares or a 2.62% stake in October 2025, shortly after his appointment as executive chairman. He made a smaller acquisition of 400,000 shares in November, lifting his interest to 2.68%.

Over the same period, Ong’s spouse Liew Su-Wen built up a significant stake in Systech before subsequently trimming her holdings in early 2026.

Liew initially acquired 17 million shares, equivalent to a 2.59% stake, on Oct 17, 2025. Within days, she increased her interest by a further 27 million shares (4%), raising her total stake to 6.69% and becoming a substantial shareholder.

Her accumulation continued with the purchase of an additional 27.54 million shares on Oct 27, pushing her stake to a peak of 10.88%.

From December onwards, Liew began scaling back her holdings. She disposed of 3.5 million shares on Dec 18, reducing her stake to 9.63%, followed by further disposals totalling 33.6 million shares in January, which brought her interest down to 4.87%.

In February, she acquired 1.48 million shares to lift her stake to 5.08%, but on March 10 again pared her holdings by disposing of 4.85 million shares. This reduced her stake to 4.39%, below the 5% threshold required for substantial shareholding status.

Shares in Systech closed unchanged at 16 sen on Friday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM113.5 million. The stock has risen about 10% year-to-date.
