KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (KL:CIMB) has partnered with the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia to pilot a shariah-compliant instrument under the SC’s ICM Innovation Lab (FIKRALab).
The initiative is part of the Capital Market Masterplan (CMP) 2026-2030 and aims to broaden the investible universe for shariah-compliant funds, particularly in Asean’s growing Islamic banking sector.
“The CMP charts an ambitious direction for Malaysia’s capital markets, and we are grateful to be part of this pilot project, supporting the SC to bring that vision to life. CIMB’s participation reflects our continued advocacy in capital market and digital innovation.”
“Our Islamic franchise has reached meaningful scale, and we see significant opportunity to further unlock this value by providing new shariah-compliant structures to investors with a shariah mandate”, CIMB chief executive officer Novan Amirudin said in a statement on Friday.
The group also noted that the project reflects its commitment to deepening its Islamic banking franchise, which has become a core growth pillar for it. It aims to contribute to the next phase of Malaysia’s capital market evolution, emphasising innovation, resilience and international competitiveness.
The collaboration is aligned with CIMB’s Forward30 strategy, which positions Islamic finance as a key growth engine anchored on scale, innovation and sustainability.
