KUALA LUMPUR (March 12): The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has charged former Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (KL:SCIB) managing director and chief executive officer Rosland Othman at the Sessions Court on Thursday with furnishing false statements.

Rosland, 52, was brought to court at about 10am by SC officials, where he was charged before Sessions Court judge Azrul Darus.

Rosland is charged with furnishing false statements with regards to the Interim Financial Report on Consolidated Results for the Quarter Ended June 30, 2021, when he was a director of SCIB.

Rosland is alleged to have committed the offence at Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd, Exchange Square, Bukit Kewangan on Sept 30, 2021. The charge is under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Market and Services Act 2007.

Should he be convicted, he could face a maximum 10 years’ jail and be liable to a fine of not more than RM3 million.

Rosland has claimed trial to the charge. He was represented by counsel Shastidaran Sathaiseelan from the Chambers of Shasti Seelan.

SC deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Hafiz Mohd Yusoff along with DPPs Hashley Tajudin, Quek Yiing Huey and Siti Sarah Kamaruzaman represented the SC.

Azrul fixed bail at RM500,000 with one surety and ordered that Rosland surrender his passport.

The court also fixed May 7 for case management.

Prior to this, it was reported that SCIB along with its former director Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah and Rosland were reprimanded and fined by Bursa Malaysia in 2021 for failing to submit its group 2021 annual report within the approved timeline.
