KUALA LUMPUR (March 8): Four leading Malaysian women are making meaningful and longstanding impact with powers innately their own. Their resilience, initiative and integrity foster the groundwork for leadership that not only drives advocacy forward, but also inspires it in others.
For Chempaka Emalin Pahamin, an honorary associate of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, empowerment for girls comes from giving them the platform to voice their convictions and the tools to realise them. On the other hand, Jasmine Wong, who is president of the Association of Women Lawyers, uses her platform to reform public policy and champion equality-focused regulations.
Furthermore, Glorene Das is an executive director of Tenaganita, a non-profit organisation that provides immediate response to victims of abuse and trafficking, as well as contributes to policy reform. Finally, for Adlyn Adam Teoh, who acts as president of Family Frontiers, securing gender-equality nationality laws is worth the battles faced.
Leaders in their respective fields, these trailblazers are remaking what it means to be part of a community and what a person can do for it. Read more about their experiences in this week’s cover story.
If you want to delve into a bit of tasteful reading, debut author Janet Tay’s novel, Early Mornings at the Laksa Café, is the perfect pick. It follows a father-and-son duo and the tumultuous journey of running family-run restaurants. Tay discusses how the story is inspired by her Sarawakian childhood, endless bowls of laksa and the Asian concept of filial piety.
Meanwhile, the general manager of global exhibition organiser Koelnmesse, Wendy Lim, talks about modern hospitality trends, what to expect from the upcoming THAIFEX-HOREC Asia 2026 trade show and why Malaysian hoteliers should attend. Reimagined from previous iterations, the event focuses on execution as well as provides holistic experiences for visitors through sessions with experts and industry-specific workshops. The show will run from March 11 to 13 at Impact Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.
