KUALA LUMPUR (March 6): Gas Malaysia Bhd (KL:GASMSIA) on Friday named Azli Mohamed, a former executive at infrastructure-to-healthcare conglomerate Siemens, as its president.

Azli, 50, will join as CEO-elect on March 9 as part of a structured and orderly transition, Gas Malaysia said in an exchange filing. He is replacing Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap, a long-time employee who has led the natural gas company for more than a decade now.

He will formally assume full responsibilities from April 1 and take on “overall leadership and stewardship of the group,” Gas Malaysia said.

Azli brings more than two decades of senior leadership experience across the energy, aviation and industrial sectors. He most recently served as managing director of Siemens Energy Malaysia.

Prior to that, he was the chief ventures and sustainability officer at AEON Group Malaysia, chief transformation officer at Capital A Bhd (KL:CAPITALA), chief strategy officer at Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and chief operating officer at GE Malaysia.

He has led large-scale transformation and growth programmes, strengthening commercial performance and operational discipline in highly regulated and competitive environments.

“These capabilities will support Gas Malaysia as we advance into the next phase of GM32, focused on disciplined execution, monetisation, and sustainable growth,” the company added.

Ahmad Hashimi, 61, will retire by the end of March. He has been with Gas Malaysia since its inception in 1992, serving in various senior leadership roles within the group, before his promotion to his current position on Feb 12, 2015.

Ahmad Hashimi, who holds 21,500 shares in Gas Malaysia, is serving as chairman in several subsidiaries and joint venture companies within Gas Malaysia.

At Friday’s noon market break, Gas Malaysia’s share price rose four sen or 0.8% to RM5.05, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM6.48 billion.
