KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 27): The Attorney General's Chambers on Friday said it views seriously the investigation done by the police on the existence to an attempt to topple the current government, and emphasised the need for a comprehensive, professional and independent investigation on the matter without any interference.
In a statement, it said any action or plan to disrupt political stability, national security and public order is a serious crime under Section 124B of the Penal Code as it affects the basis of parliamentary democracy and the rule of law.
“Hence, the AG Chambers urges there should be a comprehensive, professional and independent investigation on the matter without any interference. Any parties which are involved, if there are any, have to be held responsible under the law irrespective of their background or status.”
“The AG Chambers would give full assistance to the police to ensure the legal process could be implemented according to the Federal Constitution and upholding the principle of the rule of law. Any decision to prosecute would be done independently and objectively based on the facts, evidence and consideration of the law,” it said in the statement.
