KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 23): Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd said it has powered up two power stations that were awarded the four-year operation extension under the government’s recent gas-fired power plant competitive bidding exercise.
The two plants comprise the 700MW Telok Gong Power Station 2 (TGPS2), and the 675MW Kuala Langat Power Plant (KLPP).
“TGPS2 achieved its commercial operation date (COD) at 12am on Feb 14, 2026 while KLPP commenced commercial operations at midnight on Feb 23, 2026.
“Under the new term, TGPS2 and KLPP will continue operating until Feb 14, 2030 and Dec 31, 2029 respectively,” the statement read.
The older KLPP plant operated 21 years, and then another 10 years until Feb 22 this year. The extension would bring its operations to a total of nearly 35 years.
Meanwhile, TGPS2 was first commissioned in 2002. It was granted a one-year extension in July 2024. “The plant continues to utilise advanced F-class gas turbines configured in a 2-on-1 combined cycle arrangement,” Edra said.
“In preparation for its power-up, TGPS2 underwent comprehensive inspections and technical assessments including evaluations of its gas and steam turbines, generator and transformer testing protection relay calibration and recommissioning of balance-of-plant systems to meet the requirements of the new extension period,” it added.
