KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 16): Tasik Gelugor member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said on Monday that he is withdrawing his appeal against his October 2025 sacking from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
In a letter dated Feb 15, he criticised Bersatu, saying the party has no future because president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is influenced by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, causing the party to focus on personal ambitions rather than the people’s agenda.
Wan Saiful had met the appeal board on Feb 3, 2026 to seek reinstatement, and his written submission was dated Dec 22, 2025.
The post included his written submission to the board which claimed that the disciplinary board’s action against him had been abrupt, leaving him no room to examine the layers of allegations against him, as well as the arguments of those who accused him.
Former head of Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) Wan Saiful exited Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) to join Bersatu in 2018.
His statement follows Bersatu’s action to sack deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 16 other members from the party on Friday, for violating Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution, which requires members to follow the party’s rules and code of conduct.
Hamzah, who has 14 days to appeal the decision to the party’s appeals board, has reportedly said he will not appeal his expulsion and will sit as an independent MP with the support of 19 of 25 Bersatu MPs aligned to Perikatan Nasional.
The fallout saw Bersatu Supreme Council member Tan Sri Noh Omar announce his resignation, saying the party’s disciplinary board ignored the Supreme Council’s Jan 12 decision to postpone action against members.
Over the weekend, Bersatu’s Lembah Pantai and Larut divisions were also dissolved, with the Larut division leadership citing a loss of confidence in Muhyiddin.
