KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 28): Court bailiffs on Wednesday have moved to recover RM66,061.85 in outstanding judgement sum at the home of Umno Sungai Besar division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos in Ampang, in relation to a lawsuit he lost to DAP’s Teresa Kok.
The sum, according to a statement by Kok’s lawyer Datuk Sankara Nair of SN Nair & Partners, was from a court judgement Teresa had obtained against Jamal.
“The enforcement arises from a final High Court judgement obtained by the plaintiff Teresa Kok Suh Sim, against the defendant Jamal Md Yunos, which remains unsatisfied,” the lawyer said.
In a statement to the media, Sankara said that bailiffs are currently at Jamal’s home in Ampang to recover an outstanding judgement sum of RM66,061.85 being unpaid costs awarded.
“Pursuant to the Court’s order, the bailiff is authorised to effect forced entry using reasonable force, strictly in accordance with the law, should access to the premises be denied,” he said.
“The enforcement action represents the lawful execution of a subsisting judgement under judicial authority,” he added.
Kok claimed in the case that Jamal had defamed her over Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) funds.
Kok filed the lawsuit in April 2017, asserting that the statements were false and damaging to her reputation. The High Court in July 2022 found in her favour, ruling that Jamal had defamed her, and ordered him to pay RM300,000 in general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, along with RM50,000 in legal costs, and granted an injunction preventing him from repeating the defamatory statements.
Jamal appealed the decision, but the Court of Appeal in March 2024, and subsequently the Federal Court in July 2024, both dismissed his attempts to overturn the ruling, upholding the damages award and his obligations. He was directed to deposit the RM300,000 damages with his lawyers pending appeal, and ultimately ceded this sum to Kok after his final appeal was rejected. In the Federal Court proceedings, he was also ordered to pay additional legal costs (reported at RM20,000–RM30,000 in some rulings).
Sankara released an additional statement to the media on the execution on Jamal’s premise by writ of seizure and sale.
“At approximately 11:42am on Jan 28, 2026, the Assistant Court Registrar Qasiratul Jannah Usmani Othman, together with the bailiff Mohammad Nazmi Rahmat, in the presence of the plaintiff’s (Kok’s) solicitor Maniggandan Gopalan of SN Nair & Partners, and officers from the Royal Malaysian Police, arrived at the defendant’s (Jamal's) address in Ampang.
“Upon arrival, Qasiratul Jannah and the bailiff attempted to contact the occupants by calling out and ringing the doorbell. However, there was no response. Subsequently, pursuant to the Court Order dated Jan 23, 2026, Qasiratul Jannah instructed that forced entry be effected,” the lawyer said.
He said that the writ of seizure was executed and a total of 14 items were seized from the premises.
“The execution of the writ of seizure was completed at approximately 12:36pm. The seized items are currently pending disposal by way of auction,” he said.
When contacted by The Edge, Sankara said that he could not provide details on the items seized, as it is an “ongoing process” and details cannot be divulged at the moment.
Sankara said that Jamal’s son and daughter-in-law were at home when they initiated the forced entry.
