KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): Digital wallet provider ShopeePay Malaysia Sdn Bhd has partnered with Eastspring Investments Bhd and iFast Capital Sdn Bhd to launch Money+, an in-app investment feature to make investing more accessible to Malaysians.
The investment feature aims to give more Malaysians the opportunity to grow their wealth, particularly those who may find traditional investing inaccessible, said Alain Yee, CEO of ShopeePay.
“We wanted to give our users added value for the funds in their ShopeePay e-wallet by offering an entry-level investment option that is both rewarding and simple to understand,” he said during his opening address at the launch event held at Menara Prudential.
Launched in March last year, ShopeePay is the official integrated digital wallet of e-commerce giant Shopee. The platform facilitates in-app and external merchant transactions, enabling users to make online payments, scan QR codes for offline purchases, transfer funds and pay bills directly through the Shopee app.
Currently, the ShopeePay app has more than 2.7 million users in the country.
“Building on this opportunity, we are celebrating the launch with an additional bonus top up of 3% per annum for the next three months on top of the daily return, giving our budding investors a total of potentially up to 6% pa in daily returns,” said Yee.
Through the Money+ feature, users can invest with a minimum amount of RM10. ShopeePay is also offering a limited-time bonus campaign running from Jan 27 to April 27.
Users who maintain a minimum balance of RM150 in Money+ will receive bonus top-ups on balances of up to RM1,000, offering potential returns of up to 6% pa, credited daily. Yee, however, added that returns are not guaranteed and are based on historical performance, which may not reflect future outcomes.
Inclusivity was a key priority in creating this investment feature, said Yap Siok Hoon, CEO of Eastsprings Investments Bhd.
To have a more inclusive product and rather than offering a conventional money market fund, the firm chose to allow access to Eastspring Investments’ Islamic E-Duit Fund, which is also shariah-compliant.
“The feature was developed to include a broad spectrum of consumers across Malaysia. As long as a consumer or investor in Malaysia wants a shariah-compliant investment tool, this one is for them,” she added during the panel session at the launch on Tuesday.
Yap added that balances held in Money+ can be used instantly for online purchases, in-store payments via DuitNow QR or withdrawn at any time.
