KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): The High Court on Monday allowed 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)’s application for a six-month prohibitory order against fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho (Jho Low)’s mother, Puan Sri Goh Gaik Ewe, from dealing with her bungalow in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.
The order was granted by High Court senior assistant registrar Qasiratul Jannah Usmani Othman following the case being called up on Monday.
As a result, Goh or her agents are prohibited from selling, transferring, charging, or leasing the said property, or charging to get deposits beginning Jan 26 (Monday) until July 25.
Qasiratual Jannah also ordered Goh to pay costs of RM3,000 and fixed the next case management for July 27.
The immovable property is located at 69, Tanjung Bungah Park, at Lot 10044 and Lot 10045, in Penang.
1MDB and two of its subsidiaries, 1MDB Energy Ltd and 1MDB Energy (Langat) Ltd, had filed the new prohibitory order on Jan 19 through Messrs Lim Chee Wee Partnership, and the matter was heard before Qasiratul Jannah at the High Court (execution decision).
Prior to this, their application for an extension was dismissed by the High Court on Jan 7, after the prohibitory order elapsed on Dec 4 last year. 1MDB first obtained the order on Dec 5, 2024, for a six-month term, and it was later allowed to be extended.
1MDB wanted the prohibitory order to be imposed following the execution of a judgment in default entered against Goh to a sum of US$1.695 million plus interests, which was given by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on May 31, 2024.
The judgment in default was entered where the said sum of US$1.695 million of 1MDB funds were said to be used to purchase jewellery.
It is to be noted that Goh, her husband Tan Sri Larry Low Hock Peng, Jho Low, and Jho Low’s two siblings have left the country, and judgments in default have been obtained against them.
This is part of the multibillion suit which 1MDB had obtained against Jho Low, his father Larry Low, Jho Low’s two siblings, and associate Eric Tan Kim Loong.
Prior to this, the prosecution had failed to get a forfeiture order against Goh on the same bungalow asset in 2021.
