KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): Zetrix AI Bhd’s (KL:ZETRIX) blockchain-based age verification solution has been endorsed by Mimos Bhd’s My Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI), with the company saying it enables verification without repeatedly collecting users’ personal ID information.
MBI, part of Mimos Bhd, runs Malaysia’s Blockchain Infrastructure initiative for the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti).
The endorsement coincides with Malaysia’s launch of a regulatory sandbox from Jan 1 to test child protection and online safety measures before full enforcement of an under-16 social media ban. The initiative, led by the Communications Ministry and MCMC with selected social media platforms, lets the government and platforms trial new rules and technologies in a controlled environment.
MBI said in a joint statement with Zetrix, the endorsed solution provides a practical and scalable option for platforms aiming to enhance age verification without requiring users to repeatedly submit identity documents or sensitive personal information to social media and messaging platforms.
According to the statement, users verify their age once using government-approved digital ID services like MyDigital ID or the National Integrated Immigration System. This creates a secure digital proof of age that confirms only whether they meet the required age, without sharing full personal details or biometric data.
When signing up for social media or messaging platforms, users show this proof, letting platforms check age eligibility (for example, 16+) without storing sensitive personal information, keeping data safer.
"Across the world, policymakers are looking for ways to better protect young users online and age verification must therefore be implemented responsibly. MBI is endorsing this age verification capability as a privacy-first, practical approach that helps platform operators meet safety and regulatory expectations while minimising unnecessary handling of personal data," MBI CEO Azhar Abu Talib said in the statement.
Zetrix AI said the approach is designed to balance regulatory compliance with data-minimisation principles, as platforms are not required to store identity documents or biometric information.
"Zetrix AI will work with MBI to enable trusted verification that is easy for platforms to adopt and straightforward for users to complete while keeping privacy and data minimisation at the core," its group managing director TS Wong said.
For the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2025 (3QFY2025), Zetrix AI posted a record net profit of RM220.36 million, up 12.98% from RM195.05 million a year earlier.
Quarterly revenue rose 37.69% year on year to RM341.65 million from RM248.13 million previously.
