KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 31): Malaysia’s central bank has reappointed Nor Zahidi Alias as an external member of its Monetary Policy Committee.

The appointment of the former chief economist of Malaysian Rating Corporation Bhd is for a three-year term effective Jan 1, 2026, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said in a statement. Nor Zahidi has been a member of the committee since Jan 1, 2021.

The committee, which sets the benchmark overnight policy rate, is also responsible for policies for the conduct of monetary policy operations. BNM governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour is the current chair of the committee.

By law, the committee also comprises deputy governors as well as between three and seven other members, including external members appointed by the minister of finance as recommended by BNM.

RHB Research Institute’s former chief economist Lim Chee Sing and Datuk Yogeesvaran Kumaraguru, who spent nearly three decades at the Economic Planning Unit, are the other external members of the committee.
