KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 5): Geohan Corp Bhd (KL:GEOHAN), a Malaysian foundation and geotechnical engineering company, plans to open an operations hub in Johor to better manage cross-border work as it enters Singapore’s construction sector.
Geohan non-independent executive director Oh Chin Wah, speaking to reporters after its listing ceremony on Friday, said the hub will coordinate logistics, workforce deployment, and equipment movement between the two countries.
Geohan plans to hire more Singaporean workers as it builds its presence in Singapore’s construction sector. Hiring locally will help the company meet Singapore’s rules and adapt to its labour market.
Oh said Geohan is currently completing the required registrations and certifications for its staff so they can bid for infrastructure projects. The company has already received a Specialist Builder (Piling Works) licence from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority earlier this year.
About half of its RM72.6 million initial public offering proceeds will go towards buying new machinery — such as rotary boring rigs, crawler cranes, and excavators — to increase capacity, especially for Singapore projects.
Geohan expects its Singapore growth to start with infrastructure work before moving into commercial projects. Over the next five years, the company will focus only on Malaysia and Singapore while strengthening its technical capabilities and workforce.
