KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 3): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said a hoax bomb threat targeting a local departure flight at KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Tuesday (Dec 2) was a false alarm, and the individual responsible has been handed over to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for further investigation.
In a statement released today, MAHB said the incident occurred at 5:32pm on Dec 2, shortly before the flight’s scheduled departure.
KLIA’s aviation security team promptly activated emergency protocols, secured the area, and coordinated with relevant authorities. All passengers remained safe throughout the process. The flight later departed at 7:19pm with the remaining passengers.
A detailed assessment of the scene was conducted by aviation security, PDRM, and the bomb disposal unit, who declared the situation safe at 8:58pm. Authorities confirmed that the threat was a hoax.
Airport operations were not disrupted, and MAHB reminded travellers that making false threats is a serious offence under Malaysian law, carrying legal consequences.
