KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd (KL:PETRONM) said its Port Dickson Refinery’s product jetty was damaged and partially collapsed during tropical storm Senyar last Friday (Nov 28), prompting a temporary halt in refinery operations.
The refinery's jetty, located offshore at Port Dickson, is used to receive and discharge refined products between the refinery and tanker vessels.
As a result, the refinery will be unable to receive and process incoming crude oil during the shutdown, according to the oil refiner’s bourse filing on Monday.
The group also updated that all eight personnel on the jetty were safely evacuated.
Additionally, there was no oil spill at sea.
The group is assessing immediate alternatives to address the disruption and to normalise the operation of its refinery as soon as possible.
At the moment, it is still evaluating the cost of repairs and the financial impact of the incident.
Petron Malaysia said its Business Continuity Plan has been activated to ensure the uninterrupted supply of finished petroleum products via additional imports or alternative supply channels.
The company, which delayed trading in its stock by an hour following the announcement, saw its stock fall five sen or 1.29% to RM3.84 at noon break, valuing the group at RM1.04 billion. The stock has rebounded 30% from its April low of RM2.96.
